Donald Trump's Final Rally: Grand Rapids, Michigan 11/7/16
Donald Trump comes on around 2:40 and last about 30 minutes
The speech that I chose was Donald Trump’s last rally of the
2016 campaign on 11/7/16 in Grand Rapids, Michigan after Hillary Clinton had
just had her rally there. Trump comes in about two hours and forty minutest
into the rally that goes into the morning of election day.
What Trump Did Well
The major thing trump did well,
especially in Michigan, was appealing to the people and their personal
problems. He first starts by saying he was given an award a few years ago from
Michigan and even back then when he was not a politician he gave a speech that
was concerned with jobs and companies moving out of the country. Trump focuses
on the importance of bringing jobs back to America and making them bigger and
better. He also mentions the corrupt political class, that Hillary has been protected
by a rigged system and that it should be up to the people to show he is more
qualified to lead as the American voice.
His final points are about the ways in
which the wall, stronger military and taxation on imports will protect the
people and rebuild the economy. Trump does a good job on connecting to his audience
and having a personal, emotional touch as the average American. He is focused
on his points and emphasizes his beliefs making strong remarks that inspire the
people.
What Trump Did Poorly
What Trump did poorly when watching
this speech were two things: explanation and organization. Although he feels
very strong about his issues he only knows the problem and what he wants to be
the end result. He has no plan on how to execute his problems. Since he hasn’t been
in the political arena this makes up for a gap on how laws and policies work
and the background information that reasons why things are set in place. He
explains that companies that move out of the country and then try to sell back
to America will experience strong taxation and that NAFTA will be terminated if
they do not provide good enough deals but other than this does not go into much
detail. Secondly, there is no organization within the speech and he repeats
himself quite frequently. He bounces back and forth between bringing jobs back
to America, the importance of building the wall and how corrupt Hillary is.What Trump Could Have Done Differently
I would suggest that Trump during
his campaign have specific points mapped out and for each be able to explain
the problem, the solution in detail and then finally the end result. Each
packed with real facts and examples of how the issue would be fixed. Many of
his points do go together and affect each other but they need to have organization
within in them to make them more credible and thought out rather than a bunch
of ideas being thrown out.
What Could Trump Have Focused On More
I think that based on the location
of this rally Trump focused on the right issues. Given that Clinton was there
right before and it was the night before the election it makes sense for him to
talk about corruption, how she is not fit for Presidency and bringing back
jobs.
During the campaign Trump, should have focused more about the improvements
bringing jobs and companies back to America will have and how stricter
regulations on entry into the US would benefit the American people. Also on
this point he should have mentioned more about the positive side to these stricter
regulations like improving the relationship with Mexico and establishing safe
places for refugees in their own countries.

First of all great job on this blog... I'm honestly shocked how well organized it is an also that there aren't any comments! Following what you said in your post, I think Michigan was an extremely hard state for Hilary to win in purely because of the problems in Flint with the water and how upset people are that the problem there is still not fixed under Obama. That being said, I think Trump pandered exactly to that audience. I think you were also spot on by saying he did a great job of delivering his messages but not explaining them or actually making his audience see his plans work in their minds. Some people don't need explanations I guess. Like you said above, having points and explanations mapped out before hand, that way these ideas actually flow together cohesively and don't seem like little outlashes of hate to distract the audience from getting the answer they are looking for.
