DEBATE POST 4
The Third Presidential Debate: Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, October 19, 2016.
16:50 - 27:50 and 1:15:27 - 1:24:00
I chose the third presidential debate between Hillary
Clinton and Donald Trump from October 19, 2016. During the times of 16:50 – 27:50
the debate is concerned with deportation and within this amount of time it is
clear the position, tactics and personality that Trump has and his feelings
towards his opponent. Another section around 1:15:27 shows Trump prominently on
the position of national debt.
What Trump Did Well

What Trump Did Poorly

Trump poorly explains exactly how his positions will be
followed through. He also tends to turn a complement or fact, like someone
supporting him that has never supported a candidate, into a bragging
competition. Specifically, in this debate, I would advise Trump to speak more
because it was heavily focused on Hillary. Trump got his points across but
needed more substance rather than filler worlds like ‘fantastic’ and ‘wonderful’.
What To Work On

During the debates Trump, should have talked about ways to
improve education in the United States. Trump focuses more on protecting
domestic policy rather than foreign but he needs to explain how he plans to
stop our involvement with other countries. Trump has plans to make great
relationships with other countries however he does not promote this as much as
his plans to set up boarders, have strict vetting and more forced deportation.
Also, he should bring up more facts and reasoning behind his issues like, many immigrants
are patiently waiting to get into the country the right way and that it is not
fair that others can come in illegally or that Chicago has some of the
strictest gun laws and still the highest rate of crime.

The organization of this speech I found to be simple to understand, and well organized with the proper amount of depth to what needs to be covered for this assignment. I agree with what you thought he needed to work on during this as he did lack covering the topic of education entirely. I also did not enjoy the way he would brag during the speech rather then talk about topics of importance the whole time. He seemed to be focused on discouraging Hillary way to much during this.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you suggested Trump could improve on. He spent a lot of time dancing around issues and using filler words to try to prove a point in addition to constantly bashing Hillary. If both candidates would have focused on actually answering questions, being straightforward and to the point instead we would have much more productive and informative debates. Especially because, as the last debate, this was the nominees last chance to pull voters on their side.
ReplyDeleteMaddie,
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of people would agree with you that Trump does a GREAT job at showing his true personality. Trump rarely holds back and even in scenarios that he should have a script he often finds a way to stray from it and add his own personal zingers that truly show his true personality. However, the downside of him not sticking to the script is that he often fails to talk about specific policies and issues that he plans to work on.

Maddie,
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with your post about Trumps debating skills. especially when you were discussing how he used political incorrectness to connect and become a more personable candidate. Other Candidates hated his blatant statements that ignored the rules and social norms but the people loved it. I do agree as well that he should have discussed education more, however, at this point currently with the past president destroying our countries military his stance built on this countries safety as a priority was certainly understandable.
